Airline Mile Credit Card Applications: What Information Is Required?

Airline Mile Credit Card

Even though airlines have their own credit cards, they do not issue them. These airline cards are still issued by banks, but are just branded with the airline’s logo. This fact alone makes the credit card application the same as if you would be applying for a normal credit card with your local bank.

The application process would normally include the need for the following information from you:

  1. Age Requirements: The general age required to apply is to be 18 years or older.

  2. Credit Rating: Most credit cards with airline rewards programs rely on credit scoring and will determine this when you apply.

  3. Employment and residence history: Most card issuers will only offer rewards credit cards to people who are employed, or have access to funds, and have bank accounts in the same country and who are resident in the country of application. Vary rarely can you apply for an airline credit card from another country.

  4. State requirements: Some states have additional requirements, so it is advisable to read the fine print, especially if you live in the states of Ohio, California, New York or Wisconsin.

  5. Income and Expenses: If you are worried your credit score might not be good enough, get a credit report from one of the Credit Agencies. Armed with this report, you can compare various websites that have airline credit cards on offer to get one that suits your credit score. This will probably reduce your chance of being denied, which further damages your credit report.

  6. Identity: This is probably the most important requirement from yourself. To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. When you apply for or open an account, the banks will ask for your name, address, date of birth and other information that will allow them to identify you. Failing proper proof of identity, you will more than likely be refused a credit card, and at worse, be reported to Federal state authorities.

So, ensure that you have all the correct identifying documents that you have in your possession, these being Photo ID (passport or driver’s license), proof of address is normally also required, and other bank account details they like to see as well. This will all increase your chances of getting an airline credit card, as it is issued by a normal bank and these are the requirements they like.

If you have all the information you have in your possession, and have a good credit score, they really do not have any excuse to deny your application for an airline credit card. Also, as an additional tip on applying for an airline credit card, look for those that are issued by the larger banks, as these may be more likely to extend credit to you. On most of the airline credit card applications you will see in the fine print who the issuing bank is.
